Leadership:
- Key Club is a student-led volunteer organization that provides members with opportunities to provide public service, build character, and develop leadership. Throughout the year, Key Club members sign up to volunteer for events approved by the Key Club officers and advisors that benefit children or families in our community. Members also attend meetings where representatives from local non-profit organizations come to speak about how their organizations help the community and how volunteers contribute to their mission. We are sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Cedar Rapids.
- Members are required to attend at least 4 meetings over the course of the school year.
- At meetings, we update members on Key Club news and announcements, as well as listen to a speaker from a local non-profit organization.
- Each meeting you attend counts as one hour toward your 25 volunteer hours requirement.
- Members that have a Kirkwood class or other unavoidable conflict on Friday mornings have the option to complete 4 extra hours of service instead of attending 4 meetings (a requirement of 29 hours instead of 25). If this conflict applies to you, please contact an officer.
- Meeting dates can be found on the calendar.
- Follow @PrairieKeyClub on Twitter for meeting reminders and other updates! You can also click this link to sign up for meeting reminders via text message.
Events:
- Members are required to volunteer a total of at least 25 hours at PHS Key Club approved events over the course of the school year.
- All projects are reviewed and selected by the officers and advisors and impact children or families in our community.
- Half of the hours you earn at Key Club events will be applied to the Silver Volunteer Cord. For example, if you volunteer for 28 hours at Key Club events, 14 of those hours will also be applied to your cord. Up to 25 hours (50 total Key Club hours) can be applied to the cord.
- After an event is completed, volunteer hours can be e-mailed to [email protected]. Please e-mail your name, the event you participated in, the date of the event, and the number of hours completed.
- Take pictures while you complete projects! Send pictures to [email protected] and then check back on the website and Key Club social media to see your pictures published!
Dues:
- Membership dues are $16.00 per student and are to be turned in to the school store along with a membership form.
- For those that can’t afford dues, financial assistance may be available upon request. Contact an advisor if you have questions.
