Frequently Asked Key Club Questions
I am very busy and I don't have a lot of free time to volunteer. Can I still be in Key Club?
Absolutely! Most of our members are very busy students, but most of them would tell you that meeting the membership requirements is not as hard it sounds. When you sign up for events, you get to pick the events that work in your schedule. As long as you don't put off all your hours until the last 2 months of the school year, getting your 25 hours in is surprisingly manageable. We encourage everyone to give Key Club a try and see for themselves how easy and fun it can be!
How do I report my volunteer hours?
When you have completed an event, send an e-mail to our key club email account, [email protected]. In this e-mail, but sure to include your name, the event you participated in, and the number of hours you volunteered for. Be sure to also send any pictures from the event you may have taken! It's best to do this immediately after you volunteer so you don't forget!
What do I do if I have a Kirkwood Class on Friday morning and can't attend meetings?
That's okay! If you have an unavoidable conflict on Friday mornings, you can substitute the 4 meetings requirement for 4 additional volunteer hours (making the volunteer hours requirement 29 hours instead of 25). This option is only open to people with unavoidable conflicts on Friday mornings. If this conflict applies to you, please contact Advisor Megan Washburn at [email protected].
What happens when I meet the membership requirements?
Once you have volunteered a total of 25 hours, attended 4 meetings, and paid your dues; you will be presented with your Key Club pin at the next meeting. You will also be invited to the end-of-year celebration in May where you will receive your Key Club certificate. Becoming a member also means you can include Key Club as an extracurricular activity/ club in your applications and resume.
Can I count Key Club hours toward my Silver Volunteer Cord for Graduation?
Yes, after you have completed all 3 of your Key Club membership requirements and then only half of the hours. For example, if you volunteer for 30 hours at Key Club events, 15 hours would also be applied to your cord. A maximum of 25 hours can be applied to your cord (50 total Key Club hours). Half of your Key Club hours will automatically be counted toward your cord at the end of the school year. You DO NOT need to get approval of Key Club events that you are volunteering for or enter these hours in Transeo.
If I pay my dues in the fall but don't meet the membership requirements by the end of the year, can I still put Key Club on my applications and resumes?
No. When you pay your dues, you are committing to complete the membership requirements. If you don't complete them, your dues will not be refunded and you will be unable to list Key Club as an organization you participated in.
How do I get started?
Complete a Key Club Membership Form, turn it in with your dues and come to meetings! Membership forms are under the Join Us! tab, at the school store, or on PHS Key Club Google Classroom.
